About Us
Anniven aims to be a LARP for everyone through a focus on accessibility (in every sense of the word), roleplay, and fostering community.
Anniven aims to be a LARP for everyone through a focus on accessibility (in every sense of the word), roleplay, and fostering community.
Anniven Aims to be physically accessible with those with many disabilities whenever possible.
We will always aim to ensure that buildings and sites are wheelchair accessible to the best of our ability (as the lead designer is an ambulatory wheelchair user herself), whether that be through the base location having minimal/no stairs, ramps on site, or through making temporary adjustments to the location to make it easier to navigate in a wheelchair.
On some occasions, a location may have some limitations that make it impossible for us to make it fully accessible, which is why we note the minimum level of mobility required to navigate the location, split up into:
None/Wheelchair Accessible
Accessible to those with zero ability to stand or walk. Perfect for anyone of any level of Mobility.
Ambulatory
Accessible to those with little ability to stand, but who are still able to briefly leave wheelchairs or walk up one or two small steps.
Walker
Accessible to those able to stand and walk with the help of walkers or rollators.
Cane
Accessible to those able to stand and walk with the help of canes. This is the maximum level of mobility we require.
Anniven will always try to maintain accessibility for the lowest level of mobility, though due to maximizing affordability for both event organizers and players (fully wheelchair accessible locations often cost more), Ambulatory is likely going to be the most common level of mobility required, so do keep that in mind if you are fully in a wheelchair, and make sure to check events or reach out to us if you have any questions about accessibility in any of our event locations.
A minimum level of vision is required in order to fully enjoy the experience of the game. While we will do our best to accommodate players with little to no vision when we can, written elements may require someone else to read them to you. In the future, we would like to include Braille options for important written elements, but at the moment that's not within our immediate scope.
If you have poor vision or require glasses, Anniven is fully accessible to you. Interior areas will never be very dimly lit, and outdoor areas will be lit to the best of our ability and decorum handheld lighting will be provided when required. In the case of a lack of decorum handheld lighting, or if they are inadequate for your level of vision, flashlights are permitted.
A minimum level of hearing ability is required, if you are legally deaf and do not have hearing aids you can use, Anniven may not be accessible to you.
We will always try to maintain a neutral scent profile when possible, or at the very least no strong scents that could trigger issues for those with scent sensitivities. Scents that could be expected include:
- Minimally Scented Febreze (in the case of removing any natural odors in the environment)
- Campfires or Fireplaces
- Food & Drink Smells
- When outdoors, natural outdoor scents.
At minimum, players are expected to have an adult level of maturity and mental capacity. Major behavioural issues or little capacity to roleplay with other players and follow rules are things we cannot accommodate.
We will always aim to accommodate Neurodivergent Players and provide a safe space for them. If you have sensory issues that are within human control (We cannot control weather, temperature, or humidity), contact a gamemaster to see how we can best accommodate you.
You do not need to disclose any formal diagnosis in order to request exceptions to rules based on disability, you just need to explain to a gamemaster what exception you need, and they will try to work with you to find a way to accommodate you. It will not always be possible to make exceptions for every rule.
For longer-term events (More than 8 Hours) we will make sure that a chilled container (ideally a refrigerator) is available to those who require meds that must be refrigerated.
Every location will include one or more electrical outlets (likely more) so that players are able to charge any devices requiring charging, including phones (as they can often be an important device for general safety and medical alerts).
If you require special food or drink due to an allergy or other medical condition, you are required to bring your own if an option is not provided for you. If in doubt, ask what we have available in advance if there is food or drink available at the event.
If you have POTS and your sodium levels are very low and you either forgot, lost, or ran out of your options, try to find Autumn (the Lead Designer), as she may have extra gatorade specifically to prevent POTS flare-ups. If she does not have extra gatorade, she will help you find a source of sodium.
If you have any issues not mentioned here, contact us to see if there's any way for us to accomodate you.
If you are not disabled and you are reading this and thinking it's "too much", consider: How would you feel if you couldn't engage with a hobby you love because people couldn't be bothered to allow you to attend? Not out of spite or personal distaste for you, but because they just didn't consider that you would want to be included and they can't be bothered to do so.
It would suck, right? Well, that's the case for many disabled LARPers. Especially when it comes to mobility issues, anybody who isn't perfectly healthy and capable is generally not considered when designing the system or running games/events. At best, disabled LARPers can attend events that happen to tolerate them but are not made for them, and at worst, players are actively excluded from events due to reasons out of their control. While there is some minimal level of inaccessibility to a hobby such as LARP, it is often relatively easy and inexpensive to accommodate the vast majority of disabilities if you simply consider them when designing the game.
All Assets on this Website and all art related to Anniven are made with care by a real, human designer. We do not recognize any place for AI in any hobby or field, let alone a Creative Hobby like LARP.
